I am using word on windows 8. However, recently it has started to freeze within 5 minutes of opening a document showing the "not responding message". Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. The problem applies to all word documents. It seems only to affect word, as powerpoint and excel are both running well. In my case Aravinda's advice -- which came at the point that I was about to uninstall Office and request a refund -- halted the freezes. The culprit was an outdated add-on from EndNote that got loaded at install time from a legacy Word setting apparenty. Once that add-on was removed, Word stopped freezing.
More testing will be needed, of course. I just appied Aravinda's fix a few minutes ago. But I'll return here if there are any further issues. Hopefully that won't be necessary. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. I have tried running word in safe mode, and the same problem occurs. I have also disabled all add-ins. The problem still occurs. This site in other languages x.
